Chemical Engineer

FuelPositive is a progressive and dynamic company committed to providing solutions to solving climate change. Our green ammonia systems are state-of-the-art and set a new standard for sustainable carbon-free ammonia. If you want to make a Positive impact, be relevant and make a change, join our team and become a part of the solution! We are seeking candidates for this full-time position which will begin during the second
to third quarter of this year. The position is for a person situated within Ontario’s Golden Horseshoe and reports to the Chief Operating Officer (COO) through the Lead Project Engineer. This is not a remote working position; current Covid-19 protocols will be followed.

What would a typical day look like?

  • Participating in the daily team huddle to discuss progress and next steps
  • Working semi-independently on the experimental side of our green ammonia production project, developing and investigating hydrogen, nitrogen and ammonia technology through experiments while collaborating with other team members
  • Supporting the commercializing of our green ammonia production systems
  • On-site calibration and development of our remote system throughout North America
  • Validating gas composition, purity of gases and energy consumption
  • Developing modelling scenarios to support the Lead Scientists
  • Preparing design calculations and design briefs for prototype and research equipment
  • Preparing mass, energy, entropy balance through thermodynamics
  • Developing process concepts related to electrochemical ammonia synthesis
  • Preparing equipment specifications and datasheets
  • Carrying out technical evaluations of process and developed system through energy efficiencies
  • Developing process design criteria as a basis of the process design
  • Preparing process flow diagrams and piping and instrumentation diagrams
  • Participating in process safety engineering (relief load estimation, relief system design and relief valve sizing and selection)
  • Participating in HAZOPs and close out action items
  • Providing input to de-bottlenecking and trouble-shooting studies
  • Writing detailed engineering reports, studies and briefs
  • Participating in development of project cost estimates
  • Participating in field engineering assignments
  • Coordinating with other disciplines to ensure a timely and accurate flow of design information, while ensuring departmental and client standards are maintained
  • Developing and recommending improvements in design standards to lower
    costs, improve quality and facilitate plant maintenance
  • Supporting assembly team during prototype development

What qualifies you for this opportunity?

  • Passionate about participating in creating solutions to climate change
  • MSc degree in chemical engineering
  • Experience in ammonia synthesis and chemical fertilizer industry
  • Background in thermodynamics, energy and exergy efficiency techniques
  • Outstanding communication skills, both oral and written

Human Resources Consultant

Seeking part-time or freelance HR professional. This position will report to the Chief Operating Officer (COO). What would a typical week look like? Tasks would be generated jointly with the guidance of the executive team. The successful candidate would self-manage their time to perform the tasks in a timely manner. Tasks include but are not limited to:

  • Manage and/or oversee all recruitment related activities for assigned location(s) including sourcing, advertising, job fairs, social media advertising and other innovative recruitment strategies
  • Conduct pre-interviews to identify qualified candidates
  • Facilitate onboarding and orientation programs for new employees
  • Create and maintain all employee personnel files, including benefits information in accordance with company policies and legal policies
  • Liaise with CEO, COO, directors/managers, for proper placement, overtime control and forecasting/meeting the staffing needs
  • Ensure that all applicants are pre-screened, evaluated and processed in accordance with best recruitment practices and procedures
  • Attend all recruitment and resourcing meetings as needed
  • Submit and follow up on all background and activity verification requirements within appropriate timelines
  • Assist with various HR administrative duties as assigned by the COO
  • Partner with Communications on internal communications as required

Mechanical Designer

What would a typical day look like?

  • Participating in the conceptual design of hydrogen, nitrogen and ammonia systems under direction from process chemical engineers.
  • Creating detailed drawings with weld specifications, GD&T and assembly specifications
  • Preparing drawing packages for design reviews and manufacture 
  • Creating BOMs based on designs
  • Participating in the project management of specific projects in a supportive role
  • Generating critical spare lists for projects
  • Participating in creating service packages and manuals for systems
  • Modifying drawings by analyzing, resolving and incorporating changes
  • Providing guidance to the team of inventors to improve time to market
  • Mentoring and reviewing the work of Junior Mechanical Designers

What qualifies you for this opportunity?

  • An Engineering Degree or Technology Diploma in Mechatronics, Mechanical, Systems Design or related program
  • 2+ years of end-to-end experience in designing

Tooling Technician

The position will initially report to the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and will transfer to another position as may be designated in the future. This is not a remote working position; current Covid-19 protocols will be followed.

What would a typical day look like?

  • Working with design drawings to assemble the FuelPositive systems with guidance from the Engineering department
  • Participating in the continuous development of the equipment
  • Commissioning and testing of the systems
  • Working with the Engineering department to document changes and improvements
  • Creating detailed drawings with weld specifications, GD&T and assembly specifications
  • Participating in design reviews
  • Supporting the project management team in procurement on the outsourced manufactured components and assemblies
  • Supporting the Quality team in the validation of outsourced manufactured components and assemblies.
  • Installing and commissioning support of systems throughout North America
  • Supporting the creation of service packages and manuals for systems
  • Providing guidance to the team of inventors to improve time to market
  • Mentoring and reviewing the work of Junior Technicians and Interns

What qualifies you for this opportunity?

  • Passionate about participating in creating solutions to climate change
  • One or more of the following trade licenses:
    • General Machinist
    • Tool & Die Maker
    • Industrial Electrician
    • Welding Certification
  • 2+ years of relevant industry experience 
  • Strong aptitude pertaining to the following:
    • Mechanical assembly and modification
    • Industrial Controls with experience with Allen Bradley, Omron and Siemens
    • Some welding experience with stainless steel
    • Small pipe assembly
    • Pneumatic compressors
    • Hydraulic systems
